Up, Up and Away

Up would be the movie.

Away would be where me and the Boy went halfway through it.

It is a dreary Sunday.  Although cool, rainy days are becoming the norm for the month of June around here, yesterday's sun and heat made this day stand out as extra dreary.  In our former life Hubby and I relished these as "movie / lunch / Barnes and Noble" days.  Now, we view them as "trapped in the house / how the hell will we entertain the Boy" days.

Hubby suggested, "let's go see a movie."  Since it has been about four years since we have had the opportunity to get popcorn stuck in our teeth while our shoes stick to the floor on a regular basis we decided to go for it.  So on a whim, we three piled into the SUV and headed over to the theater just in time for the 10:20 a.m. showing of "UP."  It's Disney.  I should be a feel good film.

The Boy was initially excited...about having M & Ms...not about the movie.  He had reservations about the movie before it even started.  The fact that the previews were loud and a bit scary didn't help.  Then the movie started.

The Boy dropped his M & M cup to the floor so that he could cover his ears.  He didn't notice his cup had fallen because not only were his ears covered, but his eyes were closed as well.  He came around for a bit, but as soon as the movie became "exciting" he resorted to his defense mechanisms.

At one point he noted to us, "I see an exit right over there."  Who knew he could read the word 'exit?'

This was followed with him channeling his inner Siskel and Ebert and exclaiming, "I will never like this movie.  Ever!"

And then his lightbulb went off and I have to give the kid credit.  He is smart.  Very smart.  He is especially smart when it comes to getting his way.  He has always used logic instead of tantrums and this was no exception.  He loudly yelled, "I NEED TO POOP!"  He's no fool.  He knows we don't mess around when it comes to threats like this.

At this point I decided to put him out of his misery and the two of headed toward the illuminated exit sign he had pointed out moments before.  We left Hubby with 1/4 bag of popcorn and instructions to call me when the movie ended.

For what it's worth, Hubby thoroughly enjoyed it's animated goodness.
