But if you are wondering, "How many does it take to do a non-stress test on twins?" the answer would be 4 plus an OB with a portable ultrasound machine.
My doctor told me last week that I would need to start going for non-stress tests twice a week....then he went on a two week vacation.
I arrived at Labor and Delivery tonight at 6:00. I'm glad they weren't checking my stress levels because that place makes me nervous. I realize that I am there for "happy reasons" but hospitals scare me. It was no shocker that my blood pressure was elevated initially.
Nurse 1 came in, got me settled and started hunting for baby A's heartbeat.
Nurse 2 came in and assisted.
Nurse 3 came in and started trying to find Baby B's.
One of the 3 found a heartbeat, but there was no consensus on which baby it was.
They had concerned looks and started asking the dreaded questions: "Do you know why he wanted a NST so early?" "Have you had any complications?" "Other than twins is there any reason for this to be considered a high-risk pregnancy?"
As they asked questions they exchanged glances that left me thinking something was wrong.
Nurse 1 left.
Nurse 2 followed.
Nurse 3 continued to roam my belly with her goopy doohickies in vain.
Nurse 3 returned and helped.
Nurse 4 made her debut and at this point all 3 were literally in the bed with me, working together as if my giant midriff was a Ouija Board as they slid the monitor things all around and exchanged "did you hear that" glances at one another.
They decided to get the OB with her ultrasound on wheels to come in and determine the coordinates of these babies once and for all. So after some acrobatics by nurses 2-4, an ultrasound, and placing the TV speaker onto my stomach and blaring Access Hollywood into the womb the babies proved not to be stressed. I'm not so sure the latter is a medically approved method, but it sure did work to get them moving. It seems the love on mindless celebrity gossip is genetic.
I get to return on Friday night and repeat the fun.
